MS. COOK Room #111

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

GRADE SIX

Classes meet daily from 1:10 to 2:20 PM.  This time is split with the Music class.  Students need to bring a folder to class that can stay in the room, and bring a pen or pencil daily.  The following is a list of topics that are covered in class:

            DEFINITION OF HEALTH

            MAKING FRIENDS

            GOOD CHARACTER TRAITS / VALUES

            PUBERTY

            REFUSAL SKILLS

            DECISION-MAKING

            PERSONAL SAFETY

            DRUG AND ALCOHOL INFORMATION

(via Karen Walsh-Pio our Drug and Alcohol Counselor)

Students learn information in a variety of ways.  This includes script-writing, role-plays, group discussions, videos, reading, web research, games and worksheets.  The focus is on guiding the students to make responsible decisions even when it goes against their peers’ suggestions.  This way, students can take charge of their safety, health and happiness.
