MS. COOK Room # 111

   HEALTH AND WELLNESS

GRADE EIGHT

Classes meet daily from 11:25 to 12:40 PM.  This time is split with the Music class.  Students need to bring a folder to class that can stay in the room, and bring a pen or pencil daily.  The following is a list of topics that are covered in class:

            TOLERANCE AND COMMUNITY BUILDING SKILLS

            REPAIRING FRIENDSHIPS

            GOOD CHARACTER TRAITS / VALUES

            EATING DISORDERS

            DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE

            HUMAN REPRODUCTION

            HEALTHY AND UNHEALTHY DATING RELATIONSHIPS

            SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS

            DRUG AND ALCOHOL INFORMATION

(via Karen Walsh-Pio our Drug and Alcohol Counselor)

Students learn information in a variety of ways.  This includes lectures, role-plays, group discussions, videos, reading, web research, games and worksheets.  The focus is on guiding the students to make responsible decisions even when it goes against their peers' suggestions.  This way, students can take charge of their safety, health and happiness.
